I was wondering why every time I used vray displacement modifier render times rocketed. I tried everything to reduce the render times but it was useless. I watch every tutorial in youtube and seems that any of the guys posting videos were having my problem. So I decide to try every rollout and checkbox in the vray tools and finally I discovered why vray displacement modifier was so slow.
The thing is that vray sometimes is set up to subdivide the geometry dynamically and even if you have this disable in the render settings, you still have to disable it in the modifier since it is overriding the general settings.
Just go to the bottom rollout in the vray displacement mod and active Static geometry. And thats all you have to do. Vray will run just as quickly as before you applied the displacement
